Why are tabloids, gossip and eavesdropping so popular? Because people love taking a peek into strangers’ lives.
Once walking down the streets of Madrid, I peeped through the back of my eye an old couple who was looking and pointing in a specific direction. Of course, my natural instinct was to look at what these people were so interested in. To my disappointment, I couldn’t understand what exactly was worth pointing out in that direction. But it did strike up a thought… What if advertisers used the intrinsic curiosity that humans share to their favor?
It is no secret that one of the main problems advertisers face is looking for ways to catch, and maintain, people’s attention in a world which is oversaturated and resistant to brand’s communication. So, what if one were to place a statue —doesn’t have to be of Dante’s caliber— that resembled an average person in the street, pointing and looking towards a desired direction? That direction could be a billboard, a store, even another redirection… the possibilities are endless.
Not only has this never been done before but it could attract media attention and set a new bar for out-of-the-box advertising techniques.
